The Long Way Round!
Day One
On arrival at Christchurch airport your car will be waiting for you at the airport. A short drive from there is your first nights accommodation in the stunning Heritage Hotel. This hotel will offer you the comfort and luxury you deserve after your long flight.
Christchurch – "The Garden City" so named for its picturesque gardens and homes. As all who visit it say it is what seems, an effortless blend of modern and traditional architecture whilst still retaining the character of an English city. The perfect place to start the perfect golfing vacation!
Day Two
A short 20 minute drive from your accommodation is the location for your first 18 holes on New Zealand soil - Clearwater! This par 72 championship course is home to the NZ PGA Championship and was designed by John Darby in consultation with New Zealand golfing legend, Sir Bob Charles. Clearwater is aptly named with its fifteen hectares of lakes which are fed by an abundance of natural springs and crystal clear streams, teeming with trout.
Day Three
Today you get you first experience of the pure beauty and wonder of the South island as you head north to Blenheim. The drive today takes you through North Canterbury with miles of vineyards along the roadside. . With a population of just over 25,000 citizens, Blenheim is town with a difference. A city centre long ago claimed, piece by piece, from a then wayward river has resulted in a street layout with spirit and character that abounds with quirky lanes and sunny gathering places. The clear, spring-fed Taylor River, which flanks the town, is now an attractive friend where sightseeing riverboats retrace the route of steamboats that once carried produce. Tonight’s accommodation will be situated in the fabulous Scenic Circle Hotel.
Day Four
The drive from Blenheim to Nelson is again another spectacular route, following the coast for approximately 1 ½ hours of pure New Zealand landscape! On arrival you can check into your accommodation at the Heritage Hotel Nelson and prepare for your second round of golf at Nelson golf Club. Nelson Golf Club's is an 18 hole championship course and the runs along side the picturesque waters of Tasman Bay. It is a true gem of a course.
Day Five
Today you are heading inland and south to the famous Hanmer Springs. The alpine village of Hanmer Springs has been a favourite holiday destination for New Zealanders for many years. Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa is a major attraction, but the alpine environment with its rivers and mountains make it appealing year round. Gentle pursuits include walking through the forest and around the beautiful village, thermal pools, massage therapy as well as pure relaxation in the alpine atmosphere.
Day Six
Today is travel free and gives you the opportunity to relax in the famous springs and spas, take in a leisurely walk through the ancient forests or just relax with a book in one of the many café’s and restaurants.
Day Seven
Your destination today is Franz Josef. An approximate 4 and a half hours drive down the West Coast, be sure to have your camera handy as this is a photo opportunity at every bend! The Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers cut through dramatic glacial valleys to flow into temperate rainforest. While many glaciers world-wide have been retreating, these glaciers still flow almost to sea level, making them unique relics of the last Ice Age. Franz Josef Glacier was first explored in 1865 by geologist Julius von Haast, who named it after the Austrian emperor. Situated on the very edge of the Westland World Heritage Park, the Scenic Circle Franz Josef Glacier Hotels will welcome you in true New Zealand style and be your delightful accommodation for tonight.
Day Eight
The crystal – clear waters of Lake Wanaka beckons you today! New Zealand’s fourth largest lake reflects the snow capped peaks of Mount Aspiring National Park, whose dominant feature is Mount Aspiring, towering above a magnificent glacier sculpted wilderness. A truly magnificent natural setting and laid back pace of life, Wanaka is the perfect place to relax or experience an abundance of activities that take full advantage of Wanaka's beautiful outdoor setting.
Day Nine
Today you get to play a wonderful morning of golf at the Wanaka Golf Course. A picturesque 18 hole golf course surrounded by mountains with spectacular lake views on the front 9 and mountain views on the back 9. After lunch it is an approximate 1 hour’s drive from Wanaka you arrive at your next destination Queenstown! On the way you will have the opportunity to stop at the famous historic mining town, Arrowtown. The town was originally called Foxes after William Fox who was first to discover Gold. During the Gold Rush years of the 1860's the population rose to over 7,000 people. The Arrow River became famous as one of the world's richest sources of alluvial Gold. Many miners made their fortunes working in the river by the town. The Lakes District Museum is a great place to catch up on the town's extensive history. The original part of the building was built in 1875 as the Bank of New Zealand.
Day Ten
Surrounded by majestic mountains and nestled on the shores of crystal clear Lake Wakaitu is. Today you have the pleasure of playing at Millbrook Golf course. Set in a natural, alpine amphitheatre, against the backdrop of the Remarkables Mountain Range, the golf course at Millbrook exploits the dramatic terrain fully, delivering world-class golf. Designed by Sir Bob Charles and recently upgraded by Greg Turner, this 18 hole, par-72 championship course features 4 different tee positions for complete enjoyment at all levels of playing expertise.
Day Eleven
Today is a free day where you will get the chance to really explore this amazing town, whether everthing from budgy jumping to a quiet stroll in the summer sun, Queenstown has it covered!
Day Twelve
Today you leave Queenstown and travel to Dunedin. Your travels will take you through Clyde where you can view the huge Clyde Dam, the largest concrete gravity dam in New Zealand. The lake formed from the dam, Lake Dunstan, is 26.4 square km in size! Day Thirteen
Today you get to dust off the clubs again and play an early round on Chisholm Park Links course, not a long course but a true test of golf – few players get the better of it. The undulating terrain and its costal climate offset the lack of length. There are wonderful views over Tomahawk, St Kilda and St Clair beaches. The top of holes 8, 9, 10 and 11 provide some spectacular ocean views. After lunch it is a 3 and half hours drive to your next night’s accommodation at Lake Tekapo.
Day Fourteen
In the centre of the South Island of New Zealand lies Lake Tekapo. This highland lake and settlement at 710 metres (2300 feet) is in the heart of the Mackenzie District and surrounded by a vast basin of golden tussock grass. The name Tekapo derives from Maori words Taka (sleeping mat) and Po (night). Finely ground rock in the glacial melted waters give Lake Tekapo a beautifully unique turquoise colour. Summer or winter, snow-covered or golden yellow, the surrounding mountains and turquoise lake make a spectacular backdrop for the Church of the Good Shepherd. Day Fifteen
