Kiwi Challenge!
Day One
On arrival at Auckland International Airport you will pick up your transport and self drive to your accommodation at Formosa Golf Resort. Formosa Golf resort is set amongst tropical gardens with panoramic views of the golf course, the Hauraki Gulf and the distant views of the Coromandel Peninsula, each villa is pure style and luxury. The rest of the day will be yours to enjoy the stunning service and surroundings.
Day Two
After a sumptuous complimentary breakfast you will have the opportunity for your first round of golf on New Zealand soil. Surrounded by lush farmland and stunning views over the Hauraki Gulf, the course is modeled on the Augusta National, home of the US Masters and was the venue for the 1998 New Zealand Open. Listed in The Finest Golf Clubs of the World. Formosa covers an area of 440 acres and has panoramic views of Waiheke Island and Rangitoto from its cliff top and coastal fairways, along which hundreds of pohutukawa trees and palms have been planted. Sixteen of the course's holes have northerly views of the Hauraki Gulf and its many islands. The 11th to the 16th holes run along a cliff top overlooking the shoreline. The course caters for golfers of all abilities. It is also one of the longest courses in New Zealand at over 6600 metres (7200) yards from the professional tees and features the first couch grass fairways in this country, providing a durable and attractive all year playing surface.
Day Three
Set on 6,000 acres near Matauri Bay, Northland, The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs affords spectacular 180-degree views of the Pacific Ocean. Cape Brett and the offshore Cavalli Islands are part of the panorama which can be viewed from the verandas, lounge, card and dining rooms. This spectacular location will be yours to enjoy for the next two nights of your tour. With a range of Amenities include two Astroturf tennis courts, an infinity swimming pool with spa and a fully equipped fitness centre ensure that you will have plenty to do this afternoon as you prepare for your first round tomorrow at Kauri Cliffs!
Day Four
Home to the first 18 holes of the Inaugural Kiwi challenge, Kauri Cliffs was designed and built by David Harman of Golf Course Consultants, Orlando, Florida. The par 72 championship golf course measures 7,119 yards/ 6,510 metres and offers five sets of tees to challenge every skill level. Fifteen holes view the Pacific Ocean, six of which are played alongside cliffs which plunge to the sea. The beautiful inland holes wind through marsh, forest and farmland. This is a course that every golfer should experience, memories will be formed that will last a life time!
Day Five
Today you farewell Kauri Cliffs and head back to Auckland where you will fly the approx 1 hour flight to your next destination, Napier. This famous Hawkes Bay town was completely rebuilt following a devastating earthquake in 1931, it features one of the densest concentrations of art deco buildings in the world. Your accommodation for your stay in Napier will be at the luxurious "Farm at Cape Kidnapper" Set atop 6,000 rolling acres of pasture land, The Farm encompasses terrain which is reminiscent of Montana but plunges 800 feet into the sea. The cluster of lodge buildings are suggestive of a working farm. A combination of stone and weathered wood, the buildings combine rustic materials with comfortable up-to-date furniture. Day Six
Cape Kidnappers recently named the number one course in the world by the Daily Telegraph and currently ranked the 41st best golf course in the world by Golf Magazine was designed by legendary golf architect Tom Doak. The par 71 golf course measures 7,119 yards (6,510 meters) and will challenge golfers of all skill levels. Completed in 2004, Cape Kidnappers has been hailed as one of the great modern marvels in golf.
Day Seven
The 2.5 hour drive to Taupo takes you through some of the most spectacular scenery in the North Island, rugged hills, beautiful valleys, gentle plains and huge vistas, along the way there are numerous photo opportunities including the Waiarua Falls lookout where you get stunning views to the twin waterfalls. Tonights accommodation is open to your choice, either stay at the sensational Huka Lodge which situated in seven hectares of park-like grounds. Huka Lodge offers every comfort - from mini-bar to walk-in dressing room. The Lodge Rooms are spacious, light and very peaceful with slatted wooden, outdoor terraces. The bathrooms all have under-floor heating. A sunken bath is complemented by a separate shower and double handbasins. Alternatively stay at the Wairaki golf Resort. The Executive King Suite is a spacious and fully air-conditioned one-room suite where both the master bedroom and the living/dining room open out onto your own private balcony.
Day Eight
Another day another round of world class golf, Wairaki Golf Course! This acclaimed 18-hole course is Par 72 and 6429 metres. Set in 450 acres of beautiful rolling countryside, Wairakei International has 3 water hazards and 108 bunkers. The course was designed to be New Zealand first international-standard course and one round will prove that that aim has certainly been achieved. Wairakei is a must-experience for all casual and serious golfers.
Day Nine
Prior to leaving the fair shores of Lake Taupo, there is time for one more round at Kinloch Golf Club! Jack Nicklaus has designed courses in 27 different countries but this is the first Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course to be built in New Zealand. He uses natural features to enhance shot values so those golfers can work on every aspect of their game.This approach has earned him an enviable reputation. After lunch at the 19th hole you will carry on your kiwi challenge and start heading north to the amazing sights and smells of Rotorua. With its unique volcanic landscape, living Maori culture, natural hot springs and plenty of options for adventure, Rotorua is one of New Zealand's most famous destinations. Your accommodation for tonight is at The Heritage Hotel which is located by the Whakawerawera Thermal reserve, you will find all their impeccable rooms and stylish suites appointed with the finest in decor, many offering sweeping views across Rotorua - the city, lake or thermal reserve. After you freshen up in your room you are invited tonight to experience some of rich heritage of The Maori. The Pohutu Cultural Theatre is an authentic and traditional Maori show and feast designed to enthrall and engage you in a luxurious and state of the art venue. Tonight you will be completely immersed in an enchanting audio and visual performance presented by third generation descendants of Te Arawa - the Iwi (tribe) of the Rotorua region. You will also dine on traditional Maori delicacies, Steam Pit Hangi, and a delicious buffet of seafood and local produce, followed by mouth-watering desserts.
Day Ten
Today journey takes you still further north to the home of the 2005 US Open winner Michael Campbell, Gulf Harbour Your accommodation tonight is at the fabulous Gulf Harbour Lodge. Situated at the head of a delightful canal with views of the water, Gulf Harbour Lodge is set in a marine village reminiscent of Southern Italian fishing villages and is located at the gateway to the renowned Hauraki Gulf, each room in this magnificent lodge is furnished to a very high standard and each room has balconies and spectacular views overlooking the canal.
Day Eleven
For your last round of golf on New Zealand soil we have chosen a very special course! Gulf Harbour Golf Course is the home of both the World Cup in 1998 and the NZ Golf Open in 2006, the pristine fairways and magnificent views are sure to impress. With native grasses and vegetation the golf course has a natural look and feel from start to finish. A true golfer's course, it is demanding and satisfying to play, offering variety hole by hole. Spectacular finishing holes, ocean views, rolling terrain and classic, traditional values. All combine to make the Gulf Harbour Country Club one of the most exciting new developments in New Zealand.
Day Twelve
